Destination Duboisis a locally sponsored marketing campaign organized in 2005 by Dubois Main Street  to determine how the Dubois lodging tax dollars would be spent.  According to the by-laws of this county based program (TAD - Tourism Asset Development Program) the monies are distributed to the Wind River Visitor's Council which in turn allocates these funds to the individual towns where the dollars are collected.  These funds must be spent on marketing for the community outside of Fremont County.  Also according to the by-laws, the funds must be managed and dispersed by a 501c-3 organization.  In Dubois' case since 2005,  the management and disbursement of these funds was entrusted to Dubois Main Street.  These funds are only used to market Dubois outside of Fremont county and do not fund the Main Street Program.

Because the group is sensitive to how the funding is allocated and to whom, the committee is comprised of the Dubois organizations who would most benefit from these marketing dollars and consists of the following individuals representing the following organizations::

Rick Collignon-president. WRVC
June Bonasera-Dubois Main Street, WRVC( TAD program administrator)
Katrina Krupicka -Dubois Museum
Suzan  Moulton-Bighorn Sheep Center
Sandie Leseberg-Dubois Western Activities Organization
Cindy Dingman -Dubois Chamber of Commerce
Michel Burdick-We Do Events
Twila Blakeman- Headwaters Arts and Conference Center
Lu Beecham- Never Sweat Recreation Board
Sally Jardine - Needs of Dubois

This group meets in the fall of each year and is asked to bring budget numbers for advertising their organization or special event for the following year. Proposals for collaborative marketing opportunities such as Yellowstone Journal and Wyoming Travel and Tourism are also brought for consideration to this annual meeting.  All present discuss, decide and vote on how much to spend and where to spend it for the following year. .

For 2011 the group voted to invest the projected $25K budget ( comprised of $15K WRVC funds and $10K in private donations-fund raised through $250 donations by Destination Dubois partners) in the following manner:

  • Advertising for Dubois in the  Wyoming Traveler's Journal and www.wyomingtourism.org
  •  Collaborative Advertising for Wind River Country, including Dubois, Lander and Riverton  in Yellowstone Journals "99 Things" and www.yellowstonepark.com
  • Advertising in True West Magazine's 2011 Top 10 True Western Towns Issue
  • Marketing dollars for annual special events including Winterfest, Dubois Rodeo, High Country Poet's Gathering, etc.

Dubois Main Street was approached by the Dubois Planning Commission in 2007 to research how best to  develop design guidelines for the Town of Dubois. Wyoming Main Street's program manager, recommended  studying what other WY Main Street communities had developed to use as a guide, and begin the process of seeking funding to pay for the overall program.  Several other Wyoming Main Street communities have developed voluntary yet workable design guidelines for their  retail/commercial district and offer an incentive program to the small businesses and property owners to encourage them to adhere to the guidelines.

In 2008 and 2009 several grant applications were prepared and submitted to potentially fund this effort. In 2010, a professional planner was retained to prepare design guidelines, with input from property owners, real estate professionals, and the Planning Commission. Upon approval by the Dubois Mayor and Town Council in 2011, Dubois Main Street will post the document as a downloadable pdf on this website. Check back soon for more information!
